dpkg

Post by Tux »

Hi guys.

I used this page to install unvanquished : http://www.unvanquished.net/download#linux

apt-get started installing and at the map download time sticked on parpex map and FAILD .I tried that another time and It sticks on parpex map again !! then I used synaptic to install unvanquished and that sticked on parpex map also =[ .

BUT the problem is that I cant use any package manager now !!!
any time i want to install or remove It says :

E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

I used to fix by synaptic also:

$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: error: dpkg status database is locked by another process

ubuntu 12.04 i386

what s the problem with package managers ? how i can fix them??

Parpax should get downloaded by the installer. If you don't have it that means the installation process didn't finish. That's also the reason why your package manger doesn't want to run – it thinks it's already doing something.

Try deleting /var/lib/dpkg/lock and reinstall unvanquished. Make sure all assets get downloaded properly.

It is unnecessary to have any maps before starting, as they can be automatically downloaded on demand while playing. I don't know if there is an easy way to skip them with apt-get, but instead you could try the "universal" zip file from here which contains all the files needed to run on Linux, Mac and Windows systems.

Tux, are you sure you are installing Alpha 17? An older version of the game might have a link to an older version of Parpax, which would prevent it from working.

killing time, not all servers offer all maps for download, since they expect players to have the maps that ship with the latest version of Unvanquished.
