Surveys on website are useful... (or not?)

Post by Insomne »

Hi there

I have a small server of tremulous 1.1.0 and some day I'll migrate to unv. I'm the only one that do all things on the server, that mean I don't have a lot of time to do everything... new features, maps, commands, wiki, stats, etc.
But... I really want to know "What the majority of the players wants" This way I can focus on some topic or have a feedback of the community.
Maybe could be nice have some surveys (users or anonymous) that can have few options, this way the developer team can have some feedback quickly.

For example on http://www.insomnelandia.com.ar there is this survey (and this are the results):

Good Admins 6 (24%)
BuildPoints 999 1 (4%)
Free credits 2 (8%)
Commands and tricks 3 (12%)
Space for newbies 0 (0%)
Playeres PRO (profesionales) 1 (4%)
New weapons 3 (12%)
New maps 6 (24%)
New figure 0 (0%)
VoIP 3 (12%)

I think that a shortly survey, maybe is very nice that to try to find the topic correct in the forum.

Best Regars

Hi Insomne!

For design ideas we have our IdeaTorrent where people hwo are registered on unvanquished.net can propose and vote on solutions. Having an additional survey on the main site sounds fun for questions that are not crucial to game design (such as "What weapon should we model next?") but I honestly don't think that we should discuss more important questions in such a manner.

Responsible for: Arch Linux package & torrent distribution, Parpax (map), Chameleon (map texture editor), Sloth (material file generator), gameplay design & programming, artistic direction

Hi Viech.

First of all thanks for take a time to answer to me and sorry for my poor english.

I know about the IdeaTorrent and I love it!!! This is a excellent way to know or have a feedback of the players about the game, problems and solutions.
In fact I written about the problem of overview of maps. You can see this topic in http://www.unvanquished.net/ideas/ideatorrent/idea/45/
Of course I written about the problem and propuse some solutions.

I'm totally agree with you. Not always can use surveys to get the comments or opinions of the players.

In your signature, I can read that you are working on packages for Arch Linux
But... How do you know which it's most popular distribution among unvanquished players? Maybe with a simple survey.

What is your S.O.???

  1. Mint
  2. Ubuntu
  3. Fedora
  4. Debian
  5. openSUSE ( I use this )
  6. Arch
  7. Windows

This is a suggestion. Just trying to help you.

I think a survey would be a great idea because it's a really easy way to get more feedback. The forums allow us to see the opinions of some of our most vocal users, while a survey would hopefully give results that are more representative of everyone. Here's a quick example that I threw together:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHF1UzA5eXEtTjkxa2p5RHNUbTlaZ1E6MQ#gid=0

Note: This is not an official survey, it's just a mockup. Any responses to it will go to my personal google account.

Hi guys (me again)

I did some survey with LimeSurvey and this is very easy, and nice. I think that could be a good option for make surveys. I'll use this on my website http://www.insomnelandia.com.ar for my own surveys and maybe you can take a look later.

Here... there is a example that "how do you could use the surveys?"

http://unvanquished.net/forum/showthrea ... bit-builds

Did you know what are the most popular SO or distributions, among the players of unv???

Best Regards
