Map Design

Comments on map design:

Unv maps tend to be abandoned or derelict space-stations with combinations of long hallways and twisty passages. Vents and pipes provide places to hide for aliens. They tend to have one or two levels. They can be complex and esoteric, or highly simple. However, there are few maps that deal with other environments. There are a couple maps that do subways. (Metro and Transit). These are generally balanced, as the subway topograph mixes long spaces with twisty. (Transit has problems with the twisty tho). There are also some city maps. Both of them (city-overrun and 1984) have balance issues. (There are too many open areas, the aliens can't get an edge. They are also small. Neither is larger than a block or so. I think that we should have more urban maps. Something along the lines of an alien-infested city would be nice. I just get tired of eradicating aliens from space-stations. We need more different environments.

Agreed, a small-ish urban map would be nice.

Metro isn't really balanced. Transit is rarely played with lots of players. Aliens have like no good places to hide, but they generally win because of the walls that allow them to run away from guns easily from one pounce or two [since most people play goons these days]

City-overrun is massive (gives me low fps due to all the brushes it needs to load at once). 1984 isn't that small either. I'd say its roughly the same size as nano, just more 'mazy'.

If you want 'small' (gameplay-wise), there's a map called 'myhouse' or something like that. Aliens have some sort of tiny underground cave while humans have the house. That one is bias towards aliens for some reason, probably because of the shape of the space or something like that.

If you find 1984 too small, you might as well learn how to move in tight spaces or use a class like marauders. Marauders are awsome/overpowered for atcs-hallway sized areas i reckon. Not to mention, they are really fast [if you know how to use them right]

But i have to agree with kenur in some ways, an official urban map for unvanquished would be nice.
If we could somehow contact chuckfknorris and get him to come back, maybe he could do this. He's developed great maps in the past like tremship and overworld.
