Start without command window

Post by GLAMEOW »

How do I start Unvanquished without the command window? It causes the main window to lose focus randomly, resetting my brightness in the process.

Try not to click on anything else when its loading. Also, try the following:
->Use a different resolution. If your resolution cannot be found on the menu, use r_customheight and r_customwidth.
->Don't use fullscreen. For me, fullscreen becomes retarded when the game crashes.

This is where being able to ssh in helps…

Debian and Ubuntu packages (squeeze, wheezy, sid; 12.04, 12.10, 13.04) may work on derivatives

OFFEND! … no, that's not right… ATTACK!

This is possible, but requires changes in SDL. Is this preferred for future windows builds?

For windows, yes. I don't think it's necessary.

Grab reality by the balls and squeeeeze!

I don't click on anything while it is loading and the program has my exact resolution in the menus. I can get 250+ fps so my drivers aren't the issue.

Running the game in a window just doesn't fly with me.

I would love to get rid of the command window on windows builds. Not only for the glitch I am experiencing but I feel like it would make the program feel better by getting rid of an extra window in the taskbar.

Tremulous GPP client doesn't run the console window by default. Majority of players (Windows players especially) would rather have it that way, for others there could be some on-run command thing (like there was for old render in first alpha) if there isn't already.

Speaking of fullscreen - I find it really annoying that on the first run, the game runs in window mode and to turn it into fullscreen I have to actually join the game first (main menu options window doesn't have that option). The best solution would be to either have one fully-featured options window both in-game and in menu instead of 2 different ones (why it's like that in first place) or add basic configuration (resolution, fullscreen etc) window thing at the end of the installing process. Or both would be "the bestest".

stuff, fullscreen

It has been the main cause for many problems in the past for me. For example, gpp on the mac had this problem:
Open...
Error, resolution ratio does not match, ignore
tilts screen 90 degrees, only see half the screen

Here's another one i had specifically:
Open...
some resolution problem, not ignored
auto-resize
same problem, repeat
etc... lasts about 30 seconds until the mac console kills the program and displays some sort of error in the mac console log [not trem log, that was killed]
