So, we are very proud to announce you the Saigo integration is finally reaching its final step, and we are ready to intensively test the Saigo-build NaCl gamecode. NaCl is the technology we use to run the downloadable gamecode. Saigo is a new compiler for NaCl executables. It replaces PNaCl.
Compared to PNaCl:
- Saigo brings Clang 21 and C++20 while PNaCl was based on Clang 3.6 with C++14.
- Clang 21 is from 2025, our own branch bringing fixes is from a few days ago (October 2026), while PNaCl is from May 2015 (11 years ago).
- Saigo is fast, it builds directly to nexe, the whole final pexe-to-nexe translation step doesn't exist anymore.
How to test Saigo-built games?
One can join my server named [EU] gg.illwieckz.net [ SAIGO + SOUND TESTING ], it also showcases work-in-progress sounds by Lidi Deverson.
How to build the game or a mod with Saigo?
First, you must be on the current master branch of the engine.
Then, you use those CMake options (assuming you're in the Unvanquished/` directory:
Code: Select all
mkdir build
cd build
cmake .. -DBUILD_GAME_NACL=ON -DUSE_NACL_SAIGO=ON -DBUILD_GAME_NATIVE_DLL=OFF -DBUILD_GAME_NATIVE_EXE=OFF
cmake --build .It's like ususal, but with the added -DUSE_NACL_SAIGO=ON option. If you don't use that option, your game will be built with the antiquated PNaCl.
This will automatically download our Dæmon Saigo NaCl SDK and build the game with it. If you want to build Saigo yourself, you can use the external_deps/sdk-build.sh script (beware, it's very large to build!).
Note: a lot of CMake plumbing has been reworked, so you may want to delete your existing build/ folder first to avoid cached path mismatches.
Your testing is welcome. If you find anything to report, you can do it in this thread or in the bug tracker:
Go go Saigo go! ![]()
