I find that many of the default maps are too dark too see enough to build and fight in, so I turn gamma up. I don't think that we need to introduce any more darkness to maps than we have to, given their already dark nature.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't mean general brightness of the maps, he is probably talking about shadows and stuff which Unv lacks atm.

If the map is dark enough that it requires the humans to use flash light, the aliens will be equally affected and they probably need built in night vision capability. Not so much as to counter act the flash light but because aliens holding the flash light would be silly.

Grab reality by the balls and squeeeeze!

night vision.

Add it as a upgrade that comes with the battlesuit! :D [the battle suit is actually now worth buying!] (can be toggled like flaslight)

Just wondering, can the basilisk not show up on the radar for helmet when the basilisk is only running (i was about to say stealth walking, but the walking sounds already have been removed), wallwalking or staying still? It would make it more of a fearful predator for taking out one at a time from pack of humans*

*Lets say there are 3 people running in the map 'tremor' and the basi is in the garden. Humans do not notice and walk by.
-The basi grabs the human at the back of the group and annihilates him and returns to hiding while the other two humans hear swiping sound.
-The humans turn back, notice that the slow, fattie human disappeared, probably 'gone back to base' after killing a unknown alien. Then the basi comes back and swipes the human behind the other and uses him as a meatshield and kills him, then comes at the final human and dances around him etc.

I'm referring to the general brightness of maps. I know the devs say that they're all bright enough as-is, but I can't see in them (Staring at black for too long makes my head hurt)

Its the opposite for me; white makes my head hurt :D

Anyway, i sort of agree. Maybe the new 'darkradiant' could feature a new math system for the light fading so it bounces more or something like that.

Have you tried turning up the brightness? That might help.

Of course I have. The problem is that I shouldn't need to do that.

Seeing as most people are satisfied with current brightness, changing it so that it suits the minority of players who aren't isn't a really good idea.
Unless I'm wrong and most people find it too dark.

You're wrong :P. Have you tried building in the dark stairs on karith with default brightness? How about in the default atcs base as alien? What about the top of the window room in niveus?

I, personally and subjectively, find none of the places you listed too dark to be considered gameplay-impairing.
On the other hand, I have a really bright monitor (hardware brightness set to zero doesn't help much).
Thus, I consider brightness to be a subjective, no-size-fits-all setting akin to mouse sensitivity.
