don't own windows "7" as it states somewhere (no support for xp apparently, or at least not recommended)
don't use money
don't have access to money
I rather open source, hence comes modding :D

Kindly accept my greetings, fine Negros of the Unvanquished community,

Tremulous2 that plans to be the AAA professional tremulous, is going the closed-source and windows-only way.
As discussed there in
http://forum.tremulous2.com/index.php?topic=61.0
http://forum.tremulous2.com/index.php?topic=60.0

Therefore I wanted to ask you, users and developers of Unva related questions:

  • would you have much less work if the product would be windows-only instead of linux mac etc compatible

  • do you think it could make sense to close source this project and earn money

  • do you see any way to have professional development of Unva, meaning, team of highly paid developers and supporters that do fix all the things that need fixing not only code "for fun" without any duty/responsibility to fix all the annoying small bugs and all

  • do you see any way for Unva2 to earn real money

  • would you use Unva if it would be closed-source

  • would you use Unva if it would be payable to use (even basic version, not talking about buying extra stuff or server bonuses or anything)

  • would you use Unva if it would be windows-only

THAT = TREMULOUS 2
THIS = CLOSED-SOURCE

THAT = TREMULOUS 2 + CLOSED SOURCE + NO MODDING EXCEPT CVAR TWEAKING + COSTS MONEY I CAN'T USE + "FREE" UDK ENGINE (is that good or bad?) + NON-TREM DEVS
THIS = UNVANQUISHED [Similar to Tremulous, but not Tremulous] + ( OPEN SOURCE = ALLOW MODDING ) + CVAR TWEAKING + COMMUNITY CREATIONS + FREE TO PLAY, NO BUYING HAT/MAP/GAME ASSET SHIT + SOME TREM DEVS

I'm pretty sure I didn't make a typo. I said that money will not be involved in the project, and that we will permanently remain free and open source. These are mutually exclusive statements, they are not linked to each other.

If they're mutually exclusive then they're linked in as much as only one can be true…

Debian and Ubuntu packages (squeeze, wheezy, sid; 12.04, 12.10, 13.04) may work on derivatives

1) Of course project can be open-source, linux but cost money: make open source free game but copyright imaginary property of game-art files.

also

2) project can be open-source, linux, free to play, but also make money: make entire game and all open-source and free software (BSD licence) but ask money to join the biggest server (your server) - that way everyone is happy and there is money for serious fast development.

3) totally free game and main server, but allow people to pay to buy some stuff
a) decorative
b) for game-play (some upgrades, like faster moving solider for a month)

I like idea 2, and 3a myself.
Don't some MORPGS go 3b and earn lots of money on this, also all this second life things.

Without flow of money I think we can not make really PROFESSIONAL game that you could show to average mainstream player and he would be amazed, even before getting to the gameplay;

We could always just stick a 'donate' button on the main menu/credits menu and on the dl page. I'm sure that many people would help out.

Good idea. More people would help out if they would get something in return. So many options.

I have stated this before, and I will state it again. We do not want monetary donations. We do not want outside money from any source, regardless of the intent.
