Crash since alpha 22, not 21, during map loading (middle/end

Hello,

MaraZap|Alex and me are bothered by crashes. It only happen on Win 7 x86 for me, on Xubuntu 13.10 x86 everything is fine.

It crashed exactly in this situation: I just start the game, join a server, and it crash each time with texture quality set to 1:2 (at the middle of map loading), randomly in the first 5 min when set to 1:1 or at the end of map loading. (I have big fps drop when entering a base, alien, or human, for 1-2s no more, if it is linked, the rest of time I got 100 fps) A true drop, a freeze of all the game. Back with alpha 21 I wasn't having those freezes.

Until alpha 21 everything were fine, 120 fps on old map 80-100 on new ones. Even in the middle of battle with burning things, many enemy, luci balls, fps didn't go below 40 fps.

I wasn't having any crashes.

Some informations:

Where I live, in France, I have a good connection (< 50 ms ping, 1700 kb/s) but on dev server I have 200 ms ping. In Unvanquished menu, internet connection is set to xdsl/cable/...

I have 2 GB of ram, a core 2 duo o/c to 2.4 GHz and an ATI 4870 1 GB.

I use seta r_smp 1.

I have no crashlog.txt. Here is my daemon.log:

Are you using the 32-bit binary or the 64-bit binary?

The 32-bit binary.

P.-S. – I never do updates, for each new alpha I delete Documents\My Games\Unvanquished and Program Files\Unvanquished before reinstalling (then I copy/paste some good old maps :wink:).

Hello everyone and thank you killing time, but it doesn't solve the crashes with Unvanquished alpha 28.

Here are some new:
  • I'm still doing the following on Windows 7 x86 (still no problems on Xubuntu x86 14.04, but I prefer playing on Windows to have more frames per second).
  • I downloaded Unvanquished-master.zip from GitHub and extracted it to C:\Unvanquished-master\.
  • I installed Qt Creator 3.1.1 with mingw 4.8.2, CMake 2.8 and Python 2.7.
  • When compiling:
    • The debug build run without any crashes!
    • The release build crash in the same circumstances as describe in my first post above. Perhaps this is caused by compiler optimizations?
What I did: I runned the release build with GDB, here is the console output and the GDB output.

Like before, the crashes happen when joining dev server, training server, EU & NA servers and when using devmap.

P.-S. – I hope this will help our friends grangers-devs solving this nasty bug preventing me to play. If you need me to provide more things, just ask. Thank you. :wink:

Some more data: I launched daemon.exe from Unvanquished alpha 28 universal zip from Qt Creator "Debug" → "Start Debugging" → "Start and Debug External Application". The game crashed at the end of map loading when joining a server (like described previously). Here are the three outputs:

My problem seems to be a heisenbug: release build, debug build, and release build with debug symbols crash but not when running attached to GDB.

The game crashes:
  • At the end of map loading when I join a server with players.
  • When I approach bases as a spectator or join a team, on empty servers.

This is the continuation of my problem, in the first post I said it happen randomly during the first five minutes, but it was an approximation, by closely analysing when the crash happen, I obtain these conditions:

What are your graphics settings in game? My Mac was also crashing during the map loading process and changing the graphics to higher setting solved the problem.
