Freeway

Post by Supertanker »

O hai.

Freeway is a (the first) city map for Unvanquished. It's been in development hell for awhile. I just finished the rough layout and major areas. Would you mind giving some constructive feedback on the layout?

Once the layout is finalized, I will make it detailed, add sounds, etc etc. Right now it's very...alpha...ey...

Thanks!

noclipped it a bit, i like the asymmetry, but i think it's too biased in favor of aliens(though i might need to take a more thorough look after i get home). And alien base is too dark, you can't see all the shiny models and their animations in there :P I'll write more later

So far looks good, however, a few things I want to highlight having quickly looked around

  • Currently you can escape the map as a dretch via the freeway itself (just wallwalk up the player clip by the huge gate)

  • Human base is far too alien friendly, especially once aliens get advanced dragoons. Maybe the server room next door to it would be a better base

  • I have also added comments to my attached screenshots

Is this meant to be some sort of hut? If so, I think it should be accessible

I also think this looks rather lonely, perhaps it should lead somewhere

Thanks for the feedback!

The hut will eventually be enterable (I might make it a shed or something). That door will also be usable.

I'm thinking of moving humans to the server room. I'll tinker with it.

Any chance we can get a game going on this map? I can tether on my phone.

Had a quick look, has a really nice atmosphere already! Reminds me of JK2's Nar Shaddaa quite a bit. I noticed some spaces where the floor wasn't lit properly. The floor should always be lit in some way for less eyestrain and better gameplay.

Radiant doesn't start for me right now, so I can't check, but wasn't there some clip-like shader that prevented wallwalking?

Balance wise, I wouldn't be too quick with the judgement. It's a small map and there are lots of spots for rocket pods™, so humans could be fine.

I like the atmosphere, it reminds me of Deus Ex.
