When it gets stuck doing some action continuously, you can usually stop it by typing a command of the form /- (something).
For example, to stop walking backwards, type /-back .

Yes, the current release (alpha 22) has terrible fps on Windows. The previous version was fine, so perhaps it will be back to normal in the next release (beginning of January).

There was some thread which had a fix involving disabling OpenAL. This avoided the crash on startup, although unv was still not very usable due to FPS issues.
