Hey folks,
After talking to Kharnov he pointed me in the direction of some Basilisk concept art. Working from that I have started a lowpoly mesh and highpoly sculpt.

Lookin' good!

Also, you should have no problem throwing in a few more edge loops in there if you want to, btw.

An excellent start. Can't wait to see it textured.

Hi! I'm theyain, I'm extremely focused on quality. :D

This is a good model and I'm sure you're not done yet, but here are some things I would like to point out.

There is a seam on the underside and top part of the model. The extreme symmetry of the model is also somewhat disconcerting for a biological creature. I do know that both of those are caused by mirroring one side of a m the model.

This looks like a texture error, is it? http://i.imgur.com/qWBjg.png

Will the basilisk be eyeless? Will there be any more detail in the mouth area?

It will have eyes. Yes, it will have more mouth detail.

Currently needs teeth reworked and I am dealing with normal map issues, which apprently a few other models suffer from as well.
If anyone wants to have a look at the model, or attempt a fix:
