How do I get to the alien base? I couldn't find any teleporters or switches etc. to get to the alien base. Jetpack doesn't work, not enough range even from the top of the pillars, same with the jump pads. It also looks like the ceiling is not pass through, but somehow the aliens are able to drop down. 
If I recall correctly there are platforms placed around the map, and a moving plate will stop at these platforms periodically which you can stand on to move quickly around the map. There are two placed by the human base.
That being said, I've just checked this and none of the platforms are near the alien base. So you'd still have to walk quite a distance.
So I played this map a few more times and discovered that there is a central lift platform that goes up the room on the ceiling. I just didn't see it the first time because of unfortunate timing. Also learned that the eggs are hanging upside down on the ceiling and not on the roof as I previously thought. I discovered it by accidentally spectating a spawning alien at the beginning. Also, learned that the human weapons have limited range. They don't reach the ceiling from the ground. The eggs can be shot from the top of the pillars but getting there is rather tedius. You have to be on the top of each pillars in order shoot all the eggs but you have to spend majority of the time getting there. Overall not very satisfactory.

Yeah epic5 isn't really meant for gameplay of any kind (PvE or otherwise), it's a map to test the absolute limits of the engine. You should try one of the other dedicated PvE maps, or some of the layouts on either Der Bunker server or the Map & Bot testing server.
