Wait, did you just finish a model in three days?

4.7k tris works. In theory, you could put the little fangs on the longest pair of mandibles into a texture with an alpha channel and use only a single triangle stripe for each side (the acid tube does this) but I think the few extra tris might in fact be less expensive than adding an alpha channel to the diffuse map. (Maybe you can make use of this technique on another occasion, where the amount of triangles spent on details like this is significant.)

Model and texture look totally awesome to me. Great job!

The only thing we need now is a license and someone to animate it. Oh and a small alien insect model that you wouldn't want to buzz around your head!

Adorable!

The poly usage already looks pretty good but a swarm size of eight insects would be nice, but this means that 8*460 ≈ 3.7k tris would be added on top of the hive's geometry whenever it attacks, so every single triangle you can save would help a lot! If it's not possible to go further down, we can use less insects.
