Maybe we can use Alex's HMG as a chaingun and your HMG as a heavy assault rifle!

A continuous beam wouldn't make the weapon less of an assault weapon. But yes, if we easily get two machine gun models ingame, we can make one be a small caliber, rapid fire, rare reload type of gun while the other shoots heavy bullets but less frequently.

I imported in lasgun branch in weapons asset repository the lasgun_1.1.pk3 package @chris have linked on IRC channel in 2016. I ported it to the current master, since a lot of things have changed since this time.

Everything looks correctly in first person view:
