Yes that is easy to add. I thought i would be best to figure out the basic shape. I shall add the energy beam or aura rather if you think it's ready for it. Is there an iteration you prefer?
Since I imagine the energy to go around the dish/generator as in my sketch, I think your third iteration is suited best, since there is free space around it. I'd make the upper protection element smaller though, so you can see the dish and energy in first person perspective.
How do you like that direction?

I assume there is a holding grip on the side that faces away from the viewer?
If you want to have another iteration on it you could try to take some of the bulkyness out of the body and make the dish even more like a generator (it still looks a bit like a blade). Otherwise I'd say it's decent.
Alex, as soon as you think your concept is done (and in case you still don't have enough of us ) feel free to do a concept for our first new human defense structure to be, the rocket pod.
I'll be on a holiday for ca. a week, I'll give more feedback to you when I return!
