City Centre

Post by residentzack »

Hey team!

For those who weren't aware, a portion of the team is working on developing a prototype map that will push the capabilities of the engine to see how it handles modular set design, a practice used in current game level building. I'm not going to get into an explanation, I'll assume you all have an idea of what it is. If not, a contact of mine Thiago Klafke wrote an awesome tutorial here.

I'm planning on sending him our progress as we work, so hopefully we can get some feedback from him if he's not too busy.

Ok so the map concept so far:

Painted by Liz, here is the main centre of the city map we'll be building.

I've also done some sketch/renders for other views:

As well as a floor plan and Diorama:

I'm currently working on blocking out the map to get an idea of scale. After approval, we've got a few 3d modelers who will model set pieces such as walls, floors, etc. that I'll help sketch out before hand so no one's in the dark on what it should look like.
I'll also be painting a majority of the textures, maps, and writing the shaders. I'm not a strong modeler, but I may try to work on some of that as well.

Looking forward to implementing this workflow with the openwolf engine and anyone interested in contributing, let us know!

thanks y'all-
zack

Cool. I also gave liz contributor status so she can see everything.

I wonder if you could utilize the fancy map objects that Stannum has been working on?

Yes, except there is a bug with normalmapping on static geometry for some reason.

EmperorJack here reporting in.

I have been blocking out the map. The layout is rather simple and may not be suitable to play fair games on but it is a great size to test the modular design Zack has intended to use. The layout will most likely be modified in the future once modular design is tested.

Note proportions are not final.
