Net Radiant and GTK Radiant (And from memory, QuArK too) are basically the same

GTKRadiant has not been updated for several years. NetRadiant is a fork with updated features and fixed bugs.

As far as my memory goes, the latest gtk radiant (1.6) doesn't support tremulous, which is needed currently for our unvanquished mappers.

The wiki has some information on mapping. I'd recommend NetRadiant.

Try installing XQuartz. You'll need to log out and log back in after it's installed.

That only means, that they won't provide you with a gamepack for tremulous. The map file format will still be compatible.
