I could help translating the game to Spanish and Basque

Post by Crepe »

I could contribute during the week (Mondays to Thursdays) by translating the game to Spanish and to Basque.

I'm not a programmer so I'd need some advice about how to do it.

If you're an admin feel free to send me an email to the one I used to register my account on this forum. :)

We did some work recently to resurrect the translation infrastructure, which was completely dead from 2015-2021. In particular, we added the possibility to translate strings in HTML documents.

However, we still don't have the actual pipeline for translation contributions set up. If you have any experience with translation software, it would be nice to hear your recommendations on what we should use.

If people knows how to use git, we may start to contribute translations using softwares like poedit.

A public web-interface not requiring any software installation neither git knowledge maybe welcome, but poedit+git can do it as a start.

One of the tools that I see used rather often for that is transifex. I do not have any experience using it myself though. It is notably used by wesnoth, freedroidrpg, and probably many others, which have much higher needs for translation than unvanquished, and are also older than unvanquished.
Both those projects migrated forges at least once, but AFAIK transifex was never switch from, which do tell about reliability I'd say.

I think I remember at least one other web-based tool to be used by other projects, but I can't remember the name right now.

Imo Weblate is the best platform for open source projects. I.e. Kodi switched from Transifex to Weblate in 2021. Transifex is quite outdated in terms of integrity with GIT. Another interesting platform is Crowdin.

Hi adem and welcome!

That's really interesting! I remember having set up transifex sync for another project in the past but that was annoying!

Weblate looks really good!
