Hi,
I've just downloaded windows version of the game. I tried starting a local / LAN server to try out the game and bots before playing online. The server started and onscreen I see message
connecting to loopback
waiting for challenge: 0
and then the game went back to main menu. Is there issue with the Windows server? Can I only play online? The servers seem empty.

Hi! Welcome!
I have not heard of that issue yet, to know more about your setup, are you starting the server from within the game client or using the dedicated server binary?

From inside the game client.
I tried reading up on the dedicated server, but it's been 20 years since my Quake server days, so it went over my head.

The local server usually works on Windows. Please upload the contents of My Documents\My Games\Unvanquished\daemon.log, after you try to start the server and then close the program.

Can you send the daemon.log file (on a paste service) you get after having reproduced the issue? You'll find it in something like My Games/Unvanquished if I'm right.
What happens if you open the in game console (Shift+Escape) and type this:
Or this:
?

Hi,
Daemon log when running local server through menu pasted on https://psty.io/p?q=d7daa
Using console commands map and devmap also showed 'connecting to loopback awaiting for challenge 0' screen and went straight back to main menu
Daemon log when restarting game and using console commands pasted on https://psty.io/p?q=2a834

Interesting thing:
Can you type this in console?
And tell us what is printed? If it displays a password you've set yourself, keep it secret though! Otherwise if there is garbage, it would be good to know.
Then:
Code: Select all
/set g_needpass 0
/set g_password ""
Then try to load a map again?

SOLVED
Yes, first time running the server, I set password. Been out of the multiplayer FPS scene for years, and I always set password for local game because during NOLF era I had random people joining my local test game through the Internet.
Thank you guys.
