I always thought ECLIPSE would be a good name for a game like this. Like the Aliens are the ones "blocking out the sun" and its the struggle within that :>

For artwork on Eclipse, I imagine something similar to this.

However, the right hand side of the circle would have the light removed and put with black to replace (or whatever color) the light.
Then, the left hand side would have an inward curve of light to form the E if you look only at the light from the sun behind the planet.

Please excuse the scarring I just did to you with a 30 job of photoshop that I don't know how to use.

But essentially that only with a curve of light instead of white blocks and a blocked out sun on the right using black (to replace the random box I made)

PS. Please reassure me you that you saw the E that the light and the white boxes form ._. My photoshop skills >.<

i'll be sincere, the first time i read unvanquished i thought " what a shitty beautiful name", most of the suggestions in this topic are ridiculous. just one got me:
