Week 1

Welcome to the very first Unvanquished tournament! It is a pleasure to see you all here, and I am excited to see where this goes. Whoever reaches the top will have the honor of being the very first group to successfully win our community's first tournament, and your group will be remembered for years afterwards as we have every intention of thoroughly documenting this tournament for future readers.

Since we were surprised with the turnout, we've altered the tournament so that it is now double elimination rather than round robin. In this case, it means that each group can lose twice before becoming disqualified. That way, our tournament will take five weeks instead of thirteen. Good luck! Also, have fun.

If you don't have a group, come to the matches anyway. We are more than welcome to having spectators around, so you can watch as many matches as you'd like. In addition, if a team runs short on players, they can pick from the spectators assuming that both playing teams are fine with this. So, you can still end up playing in the tournament for one of the existing teams.

Matches can be rescheduled if the need arises. Both teams should discuss a better time, and then notify us promptly. A match can be rescheduled to any time before the next series of matches, assuming that a referee is available to document that the match took place. Any member of our development team can serve as a referee, including contributors.

Times:

  • GT vs =Pk:| will take place 21:00 GMT Saturday.

  • SLUG vs son will take place 21:00 GMT Saturday.

  • {get} vs |KoR| will take place 21:00 GMT Saturday.

  • l8nk vs .ddos will take place 12:00 GMT Saturday.

Important message to those participating!

Make a thread for your clan or group in this section, with a list of the players you expect to represent your team in the tournament. It's okay if people outside your clan play with you over the course of the tournament, but at the very least they must be registered, they must consistently play with your group, and we would like a list of the people that we can expect to play. Ideally, you should get your group mates to register for the forums too, so that we can communicate with everyone involved.

Teams that want to setup a server of their own for training can compile the 2013-summer-tourney tag from git and download the vms and data pk3s for the tourney13 "mod".

Goodluck to every clan! Training will get you to win, so may the hardest Unvanquished team win.

5 am :/
Afterall, I guess that's a confirmation that I can't attend KoR's, but KoR should have enough provided they attend.
I might be able to see the aftermath though.
l8nk vs .ddos; good luck :P

My predictions:

Code: Select all

GTvsPK -> GT judging from kharnov's dev game win spam.
*son vs SLUG -> No idea, never heard of
{get} vs KoR| -> it's probably a 50-50 here if I join, else I've got a feeling KoR'll lose.
l8nk vs .ddos -> .ddos'll win, l8nk most likely never touched GPP, and unvanquished uses mainly GPP rules.

a reschedule for the following saturday (27th) at same time (12:00gmt) currently pending with ddos.

l8nk on vacation this weekend, will try to keep posted.

EDIT: Cadynum of .ddos has agreed with the game being played on Saturday 27th, 12:00GMT instead of the previous allocated time.

Thanks and good luck to all in their matches.

All teams should make sure they have basic knowledge of the new gameplay. These are not just balance changes. The ingame menu that pops up when you connect to one of the tourney13 servers will also explain the most important changes briefly.

Why can't you play without knowledge? Who are you to stop them?

It makes more fun, interesting and educational games for both the developers and players if they play a game they're supposed to have a tournament on, and actually compete for the title.

That'd be funny if someone who just learnt how to use a computer last week won the tourney. My brother's like that. Heck, he's ranked 10th in the australia for LoL currently.

There are no rankings for LoL... You get put into different categories depending on how many ranked games you win.
