Weekly Public Development Games (Sun 20:00 UTC)

The Dev Games take place every Sunday, 20:00 UTC/GMT.

The games usually run for two to three hours and are played on the Dev Server. Everyone is invited to join, you don't need to be associated with the development team. To find out when our regular events happen in your local time, visit the events page on the Wiki.

The games on the first sunday of a month, which happens to be our release day are always played on the old version so that you have a whole week to update before the next sunday. Note that the amount of developers present will be slightly lower as we usually struggle with the release and introduce last minute bugs to keep things interesting for you during the coming month.

If you take part in the devgame please don't just spectate but also play. It's been a while since you played Tremulous (if at all) and you are not familiar with the latest gameplay changes but that's not an issue at all. In fact that's very much the point. If you first spectate until you feel knowledgeable about the changes, we lose the ability to judge how intuitive they are. And quite obviously, when we only test with a fraction of all attending players, we won't get a feeling for crowded matches before we announce beta which is quite a risk to the design process.

The people who should spectate a good amount of matches are the developers who are directly involved judging the changes at hand and adjusting settings for them between matches. Currently, this applies to Anomalous, Ishq and Viech. However, while matches are small we will usually play, so tell your friends to join if you want to free us from the obligation to wreak havoc ourselves.

Another thing we would like to ask you for is not to discuss ideas and suggestions during the matches. This takes players out of the game (including yourself) and the developers involved in gameplay design don't really have the time to listen to your ideas as they have to focus on watching or playing as many scenarios as possible. If you think you have found a recently introduced bug tell the developers with the »\a« command (so other players don't get distracted from playing) and take a picture and/or demo if applicable. After the match we are open to any form of feedback (even especially if it's just your gut feeling) in the game's thread in the Events section or, if you happen to have some detailed wall of text to share, in the Feedback subforum.

For those who want to chat with us using VoIP, there's a Mumble server at viech.name (password: unvanquished). It uses the default port of 64738.

See you next sunday!

Monday I have an exam. Also, it's like dead in the morning. I probably should've noticed that dev game time change earlier.

I'd love to see a regular game happening beyond the +4 mark but in order to get enough people online for playtesting we have to focus on Europe and America, since most of our alpha testers as well as the people who are responsible for gameplay development live there. If you want to host a regular game for Asia, Australia and Russia you are very welcome to do so! You'd need to setup a server, we can then provide you with a link so you can sync the latest pk3s from the dev server. In order to use your matches for evaluation, we just need a few demos from different players or one from someone hwo spectates.

I like how the one person who voted none of the above got their way.

You misspelt who as hwo in your post by the way.

Are you suspecting a conspiracy? Because if yes, have a look at the this silver pen.

It was repeated several times, so I just ignored it thinking it was intentional.

So, the new date has the downside of colliding with the release protocol, so there will be no official devgame on the first sunday of a month. However, if you can connect to the server (that is, if your version happens to match the server's version, which may or may not be updated to the next release), there might be some people online to play with.

The games always happen and are played on the old version.

Updated the original post with the Mumble server's address.
