Back in the days, when I was an university student, (year 1999) one of my friends was in charge of the computer classroom, (quake3 had just born). That room was not very big and would have about 12 computers, all networked.

   You can already imagine what was the game installed on those computers.

Some Saturday afternoons we entered there (the guard let us pass) and we played epic quake 3 games until the late night.

today, we still playing sometimes, one of us runs a server and the rest connect through the www.

Guys, 14 years years have passed and even today, people still playing.

Games that died were those wich had no online mode. (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Old pc games, etc etc..)

Good online games will never die because there will always be people willing to play them.

my god, quake 1, I havent played it again for.... 16 years.

The sound was incredible, but the screen color palette uffff, was so ridiculous that hurt my eyes, (if I remember correctly, 256 colors-----> like supernintendo). The colour palette induced me to depression.

The game ran perfectly on my amd k6 233 mhz 16 mb ram, (miraculously the game could also run on a pentium 90 mhz)

I remember there was even a patch to take advantage of hardware acceleration on 3dfx voodoo cards, but I could never make it work on my 3dfx voodoo 3 pci.

damn, how fast time flies!

Many NES/SNES/Genesis games are still being played en masse all around the world.

because now you can play these games online.

I had a sega genesis, and the whole streets of rage saga (aka bare knuckle) among other games.

If you want to play online, try this emulator:

Kega Fusion

http://www.eidolons-inn.net/tiki-index.php?page=kega

The emulation is almost perfect and the sound is identical.

it works perfect, not too long ago i completed all streets of rage games, playing online together with a friend. Damn, the music of this game still has an impressive quality, a true masterpiece, I recommend you try this game just for the stunning soundtrack it has. (the music was composed by Yuzo Koshiro)

Streets of Rage II:

This emulator is also capable of emulating the only game that used the SVP chip, Virtua Racing.

And for the love of God, play to Shinobi III, in my opinion is the best game created for the Sega Genesis. (the music was also composed by Yuzo Koshiro)

I play to Street of Rage since I got it, in the past on the megadrive, today using the Gens/GS emulator under GNU/Linux.
I play to Street of Rage even if there is no network, like in trains, network is not needed at all.

Street of Rage is not dead to me.

(By the way, do you know the Street Of Rage Remake project? It's pretty cool)
