Re: Installation in Ubuntu/linux mint

Why does unpacking still have to be a problem, even with Universal ZIP? Is fixing it really that difficult? Don't pack binaries into nested archives, have daemon read "/proc/self/exe" or whatever stuff used to determine executable location on Windows, and search the directory for packages....

I guess if a commercial project wants to spin off from Unvanquished

Is that even feasible? The engine is GPL, so you can't add PROtective ✪DRM✪, at least not easily, and much of the core art is CC-BY-SA.

Turn the repeater into a force-field generator! I swear we discussed that once ages ago.

Make it powerful (deflect barbs, strongly push mid-air aliens) but have it activate only if the human base is unoccupied. That'll encourage humans to attack and not camp.

Re: Feedback on gameplay changes

Attacking from the exact front deals normal damage. Attacking humans from a higher position adds up to 25% damage, doing so from a lower position decreases damage by up to 25% though. Attacking aliens from below adds up to 50% damage, but attacking from above or the side yields no bonus. Attacking ...

Re: Feedback on gameplay changes

As a dretch, tracking is just as important as movement and being able to track an enemy perfectly makes every movement more potent How would it not be important if there were no head bite? With wall crawling in the game, killing a human in two hits is tough unless you surprise them. And if you don'...

Dretch headbite

The system feels too basic. What I mean by that assertion is that aliens become all about movement instead of aim and movement; it just feels like it's making every dretch the same even if one is incredibly better than the other. I like being rewarded for exceptional aim and being punished when my ...

Getting rid of the 'NC' term has some benefits and some of us want to do this.

What about also getting rid of ND in maps and textures?

Re: Quick ideas and small suggestions

Why would acid tubes or turrets only attack certain targets and ignore others? For gameplay reasons, the same reason why 1 HP aliens can still attack and jump as if they were uninjured and yet touching a little fire kills them instantly, and the same reason why humans can stand on top of turrets de...

I found evidence of Global Government

So, the first launch experience hasn't been fixed in Alpha 45. I know that the updater will be released soon, but I still wanted to see how a simple workaround would look. The result (102 C++ lines, Linux only): http://pastebin.com/SfamPKza Assuming that the binaries are located in normal subdirecto...

Re: Quick ideas and small suggestions

Make base structures more powerful but have them respond only to attacks on base, so if you ignore structures and only attack players, the structures will ignore you, that'll stop camping.
