Re: Resources

I agree with you and like your solution but we shouldn't take the discussion on that matter further in this thread. The fact that build points can be reclaimed under some circumstances might still be relevant to the resources discussion, the precise nature of this feature probably isn't. I propose ...

Funds for player upgrades

I think we've gotten far enough in the Resources thread (which has mostly been centered on build points) that we can split off discussions of player and team upgrades. Team upgrades I think need to wait, and for player upgrades we'll start talking about what those upgrades might actually be shortly,...

Re: Resources

I'm going to make a list of assertions about build points in an attempt to summarize and finalize the discussion. There are still some open questions, but hopefully at this point everything else is uncontroversial enough to start with. If anyone disagrees, speak up now. Build points are a resource f...

Re: Resources

Now that we have decided to at least attempt free placement. One debate that I have not heard much about and has not yet been explicitly decided is whether or not we want to use Build Points or Resources. A quick summary and definition: The definitions we've been using in the rest of this thread ar...

Re: Resources

I see a Problem with Free placement . A number of us have voiced concerns about free placement versus fixed sites (assuming a global pool), but given that Free placement is probably simpler to implement It won't hurt anything if we have to fall back to using fixed sites instead (meaning probably no...

Re: Resources

Correct, but it's bases that lead to camping. Why would a player camp anywhere but a base? It's safe, easy access to ammo, and unlimited health regen. If camping is really such a problem, shouldn't we get rid of bases altogether then? Because I don't think just forcing them to move around would do ...

Re: Resources

Why tear them down? Why not just leave them up? What is there to gain from tearing them down? I'm assuming it will possible to reclaim build points for structures that are no longer needed, or otherwise be able to move them somehow. You would not leave them up because there would be no point in def...

Re: Resources

Bases would expand naturally to the size that a team is capable of defending -- the better the team, the more of the map they would be able to control. The difference with local build point pools is that parts of the map you control would eventually stop being worth defending altogether, so the best...

Re: Resources

The problems with the first two are that it would encourage the teams to camp. A global build point pool doesn't do anything to force teams to move their bases, but I don't see how that encourages camping in any way. If you don't make an effort to control the rest of the map outside your base, the ...

Re: Resources

Theyain's idea was brought up in IRC and appealed to a few people in the ensuing discussion, so it seems like we still need to decide how to handle build point extraction. I see only four possibilities, so unless someone can come up with another that is fundamentally different let's choose one of th...
