That would probably be enough to kill little aliens but not enough to stop the regeneration on big ones. It gives you a different outcome.

It would be pretty cool if you could also light aliens on fire. If you don't want to have the fire actually damage aliens for balance reasons it could cancel regeneration for the duration of the fire.

I would opt for the second one actually. With any flame weapon you want to keep your face as far away from the flames as possible and you also want to be able to see over the flames to aim. How about a little dude in a corner of the hud that mirrors the player. It shows his equipment and his hit points. When you buy some armor the dude changes to reflect that. I dont see alien wall walk in there or is that shared with crouch? That needs to be something easy like ctrl, shift, or alt. C has traditionally been used for crouch but causes bad finger gymnastics. For what it is worth I use a trackball with 2 mouse keys and no scrollwheel. I like to have options ...

Looks good. Yeah the charging handle does not make much sense on an energy weapon. From an ergonomic point of view, the butt should fit against the shoulder with no rough edges. For true ergonomic comfort there should be some length adjustments for different length arms and the cheek piece should go...
