there is only one real advantage of simulating each insect individually: The swarm can split up and each insect can act independently from the others. Swarmlogic sounds interesting. I'll give the it a try. On Amsterdam Unlimited, a trem server, we had a mad that made hives actively track their target. Made them pretty dangerous. Target selection of Swarms
When a hive finds a valid target (= a human in range), it launches a swarm to attack that target. The think() function of the swarm, however, completely ignores its current target and just makes the closest human the new target. That happens every 0.5 seconds.
