Error: Error during initialization: Couldn't compile vertex

I don't have 0.38. When my client tries to download it, it either will get into an infinite loop where it tries to download it again and again, or just flat out crash with Error: Error during initialization: Couldn't compile vertex shader generic . If it does get into the infinite loop and I quit out, I will get that compile error I try to open Unvanquished back up again.

I downloaded a 0.38 zip and copied the 0.38 archive from there, but same problem.
In the terminal, below a whole slop of compile stuff, it says
compile log:
0:360(13): error: syntax error, unexpected NEW_IDENTIFIER, expecting ',' or ';'
Is this a known bug?

Are you using the 0.37 client? It isn't compatible with 0.38 and generally compatibility breaks between 0.<x> versions.

Otherwise can you paste the full log somewhere?

Thanks!

If you are using a package you can also ping the maintainer for your distro, otherwise downloads are here https://www.unvanquished.net/?page_id=318
