I think we should go a step back from specific Game play changes and define what we want.
What are the Emotions and situations we want to happen?
With this in the background we can look on existing game elements and new ideas how useful they are to reach this.
i start with:
3 Humans sneak through a corridor, they got no radar or sort of. In the distance you hear a Tyrant crying, the sound of doors. The Humans hides in niches and seconds after the Tyrant enters the corridor and runs past them into another door. Out of the direction where the he goes to, gun fire and silence. The humans moves along, they got something to do. they go to a place and planting/repairing something, one is busy with this until the others cover him. A Dretch creeps on a pipe trout the room. No one sees him but then he cry to alert his team. The scared humans know there position is leaked out.
and
Humans barricaded behind boxes shooting on a corridor full off rushing aliens. In there back is only a big metal door. A Technician tries to open it until the humans defend there hopeless position unaware if the door opens before the ammo is out.
