i don't criticize the new filesystem kharnov. why would i ?

I'm criticizing the way the 'news' are presented to the gamers. A simple: "a new install from scratch is necessary" or "due to the internal changings of this new version a complete reinstall is advised" or something would have done the trick.

I am going to purge unvanquished now , delete the (2!) hidden home directories and resinstall it via apt-get.

Why do i have to manualy remove /var/games unvanquished/* after
'sudo apt-get purge unvanquished unvanquished-common && sudo apt-get clean' ?

I'll report back here if i can get 0.24 to run that way.

still pissed :bomb:

so now,

'sudo apt-get install unvanquished' returns an exit status 1 from the unvanquished-common install script.

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

thanks for breaking my system....

I always have used Generic Linux Package which doesn't need any installation, it has a helper script to download all maps/pk3s/... from sourceforge website to ~/.unvanquished directory. :coffee:
It is easier for me to launch/update alpha releases of Unvanquished and i prefer it. BTW You can try it.

a 'apt-get purge unvanquished unvanquished-common' doesn't delete /var/games/unvanquished/* ... why? If you want to reinstall from scratch these files MUST be gone, otherwise it won't change anything (> get rid of files from the previous versions, if f.e you run into upgrade problems like i did)...so deleting them manualy breaks your system (> i had to mkdir /var/games/unvanquished just ot avoid the postuninstall skript abort error to finaly purge it. So PLEASE PLEASE review your homegrown install script thingie. It seems to be something VERY wrong with it.

Thanks

*by the way why do the game files get installed into /var/games at all ?? is there a plausible reason to NOT install them into /usr/(games/) or /opt like it is scheduled by the LSB http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collabor ... groups/lsb ??

The node and reactor look very natural in the first picture. I've always felt that the buildings felt a bit out of place, but this time it actually looks really good.

As error reports go, that's not helpful – you've basically reported that dpkg hit a problem but not quoted the earlier text which says what the problem was. dpkg is very robust, and the problem is almost certainly a packaging bug.

Regarding earlier problems with where downloaded files were being placed, this is fixed now, but Sourceforge seem to be having some problems which may result in curl connecting but not receiving data, complaining about reset connections or reporting ‘404 Not Found’.

Debian and Ubuntu packages (squeeze, wheezy, sid; 12.04, 12.10, 13.04) may work on derivatives

OFFEND! … no, that's not right… ATTACK!

I downloaded Generic Linux Package and i run download-pk3.sh helper script to download assets from SourceForge automatically but it didn't work (error 404), as Anomalous said:

..., but Sourceforge seem to be having some problems which may result in curl connecting but not receiving data, complaining about reset connections or reporting ‘404 Not Found’.

I have to download all assets manually (md5sums0.24 content):

DwarfVader, Did you update packages list (apt-get update)?

Upgrading from a very old version of Unvanquished is not supported.
You need to purge and re-install unvanquished-common.

Maybe Unvanquished is not removed completely. Also have you any broken package?

you see, i can install/upgrade other packages just fine. so at least for me it seems very clear there is something broken on the developer side of the game. not on the user side.
