These screenshots were taken with default brightness on linux. Black is the most predominant color in all of them, with little to no contrast in much of the picture. I don't think anyone has ever complained about maps being to bright in unvanquished, so please, make it brighter.

This sounds pretty good, I like the roar and attack sounds! Not sure about the walking sounds, they sound a bit too clumsy to me. I think the dying sound needs some work. It doesn't sound very much like a dying scream, more like an exhale. The biggest alien in the game deserves to be loud and flash...

I'm not sure if this makes sense in a fast-paced game where your enemies focus on close combat. Darkness can't be an element of the game. If we add corners that are dark enough so that you will want a flashlight, any non-casual player will "tweak" values until they can see stuff in there ...
